Which compactor do you need?

For compacting sand, pavers, or a smaller foundation, you hire a vibrating plate. Do you need to compact in a trench or narrow space around pipes? Then you choose a tamper, which compacts vertically instead of horizontally. For larger areas such as driveways, car parks, or road construction, you hire a roller: a drum roller or pneumatic-tyred roller for larger projects, or a ride-on roller for smaller, more precise jobs.

Hire plate compactor: 80, 200 and 450 kg

Hire a rammer for trenches and narrow spaces

Working in a trench or around pipework where a plate compactor can't reach? Then hire from us a Trilstamper LT5005 (Weber), which compacts vertically instead of vibrating flat — ideal for narrow, deep compaction.

Hire roller: 7, 13 and 20 tonnes

For groundwork, foundations, and road construction, hire a padfoot roller (Bomag): the 7-tonne roller, of Suitcase roller 13 tons or the 20-tonne suitcase. Do you work with cohesive or clayey soil? Hire tyre roller: 16 to 28 tonnes for asphalt works

Hire smooth roller and corrugated roller

Which compactor do I need: a plate compactor, a tamper, or a roller?

For compacting sand, pavers, or smaller foundations, a vibrating plate is sufficient. For trenches or narrow spaces around pipes, opt for a tamper, which compacts vertically. For larger areas such as driveways, car parks, or road construction, hire a roller (sheepsfoot roller, pneumatic tyre roller, or ride-on roller, depending on the scale of your project).

The difference between a padfoot roller and a pneumatic-tyred roller is that a padfoot roller has a drum with projections on it, known as "feet" or "tampers," while a pneumatic-tyred roller has a drum with several rubber tyres.

A smooth-wheeled roller compacts with one or two smooth steel drums and is primarily used in earthworks, foundations, and road construction. A pneumatic tyre roller compacts with multiple rubber tyres for even pressure and is often used for finishing asphalt.
